Mentoring

I’ve been very lucky to have opportunities to engage with students beyond the classroom in exciting ways! Below you can find some of the more formalized experiences I’ve had.

Fellowship Advisor

Fall 2021-ongoing

I advise students about fellowship and grant applications, from the initial steps of determining what to apply for, all the way through working through applications, and develop and run webinars, workshops, and mentoring programs about applying for external merit-based funding.

Faculty Mentor

Fall 2021

I had the pleasure of mentoring a former student who led her own course. Truly, she led herself, and was kind enough to share the experience with me, but I mention it in case others are considering participating in similar experiences, which I highly recommend. It is marvelous to see a former student step into a teaching role!

Judge

2016-2018

Each year, Aresty students present their research at a year-end undergraduate research conference. I have been really impressed with the excellent work of the teams I judged, as well as many others that I was lucky enough to talk with. I have also had the pleasure to work with several groups students that have joined our research team, some of whom went on to continue with our group!
